Sheep mustering

For my S Hemisphere friends out there! There may not be the thousands of sheep that there are Down South, but last weekend I volunteered my flapping arms and voice to help bring a few Icelandic woollies down from the hills.

I hope you've thought up something dramatic to do to protest the resumption of whaling by Iceland!

I just gathered through BBC website and talking to folk here that the UK is critising Iceland over this decision. I do not agree with Icelands resumption of whaling either (from what I gather, an increased quota on minke whales and commercial harvest of fin whales). However, as one person here in town pointed out to me: if the UK can go to war and kill innocent people in muslim countries.... can our Governments protestations against whaling really be taken seriously?
It seems that Iceland has developed a very healthy whale WATCHING industry. I think most Icelanders would agree that this is the future. A fish-obsessed minority have just damaged this industry, I feel. And tourism generally... and possibly will provoke international boycotts on Icelandic fish exports....
And... to answer your question - finally - hmmm, what can I do? I wish I knew. I have seen no sign of formal protests in this community, at least... I shall have to find out if there is anything happening in the capital.

maybe you should be radio tagging and following Minkes rather than minks to raise awareness...You could probably do it during the day as well.

yep! Some hail leaving Reykjavik and snow and ice on the pass to town. However, I think that trying to navigate my way around IKEA this morning - in a sleep-deprived state, looking for a desk for work - was far worse.

Thanks for the drinks last night - it was indeed an epic trip back to Stykkisholmur fron Bristol.

ps. your blog is very fancy. I have a long way to go yet!....
